HRA Minutes for Thursday December 6

 Fund Raising

Professor Reed suggested a fund raiser involving community professionals answering student questions in a one on one 10 minute session. We would charge a one time fee to the students of approximately $5.00 and the professionals would donate their time. We hope to have members of SCORE and possibly local professionals involved. We expect about 100 people and will host this workshop for approximately 3 hours. The quad is our first choice and the Sub our second as a possible venue. We will start contacting professionals in January for a possible April workshop.

Our raffle fundraiser is moving right along and we can start contacting companies to donate items or services to be raffled off. Price of our raffle tickets will be $2 each or 3 for $5. We have a goal of $500 that we want to raise for the HRA Games. Before soliciting from merchants etc please contact Moonlight Bateman at mtbateman@q.com so the information can be added to our contact list. This is to prevent multiple people from contacting the same person. The raffle will be held in March during the Career Connections event.

Alumni Event and Career Connections

For the Alumni event we are committed to

  1. handing out flyers in class
  2. Greeters for event (1-2 members per panel discussion)
  3. Time Keepers for event

For the Career Connections we are committed to

  1. Sponsored booth by our organization
  2. Event set up and Greeters at the career fair and reception
  3. Assist in ensuring that the companies are in place for informational sessions/speed recruiting
  4. Handing out flyers in our classes

Breakfast with the Dean is January 31. RSVP is due by January 21. If anyone has any questions, comments or concerns they would like passed along please forward them to mtbateman@q.com.

January’s workshop “student makeover” is being attentively rescheduled for February.

The next HRATV meeting is scheduled for December 19. The topic is benchmarking.

We would like to welcome our new Chief Operating Officer Vickie Hacking, and our new Vice President Moonlight Bateman.

Be on the look out for an e-mail regarding next semesters meeting times.

HRA Minutes for Meeting of November 8, 2007

This months meeting was attended by all officers and advisors as well as new members.

HRA would like to welcome 3 new members who attended this months meeting and thank everyone for their input and ideas.

This brings our membership up to 11.

Our meeting was opened up by Carlene Hansen, Projects Coordinator COBE Office of the Dean. She gave a PowerPoint presentation about the upcoming spring 2008 Career Development Day and the Career Connections Reception.

“Fun facts” we learned from the last career connections reception are that students are willing to relocate, some students received interviews from the 2007 Career Connections event Companies were impressed by how COBE students were prepared, and how they had dressed appropriately. The event exceeded the expectations of many companies.

The 2008 Career Connections Reception (March 4 & 5) will have opportunities for individual informational sessions and “speed recruitment” (5 minute interviews allowing students to interface with employers for potential follow up interviews). A concurrent reception will be taking place.

Our involvement (What can we help with?)

Career Development Day (February 4, 5, &6) will involve a panel of members from the Alumni Center Board of Directors and our own CoBEAC. Panels will offer career development information to attendees. Sessions are being designed to match class times. Student Organizations are asked to set up and host a booth.

 Our involvement

 Fundraising

The HRA after much discussion decided that this year’s first fundraiser will be a raffle off of donated prizes. Keyara will handle getting our fundraiser approved through ASBSU and the BSU foundation (approval from the foundation is required because it is considered gambling). Once approved, the club will decide who they will individually contact so that we are not all calling on the same people. All contacts and commitments from business owners will be directed to Moonlight so we can keep an inventory of what will be raffled off and who donated. When the raffle takes place, we will have a letter/brochure thanking those who contributed to our worth wile cause to give out with the raffle tickets.

The next HRATV meeting “Valuing Diversity, Practicing Inclusion” is to be held Wednesday, November 14 at 7:30-9:00 a.m. at the Courtyard Marriot on Eagle rd. Cost for students is only $5, remember you must register by Friday November 9.

Breakfast with the Dean will begin again in January. If you have any concerns or ideas about what you would like to see in the College of Business please let an Officer know so we can pass it along.

Human Resource Management Association Meeting Minutes for April 16, 2007

By Moonlight Bateman, Chief Operations Officer

We would like to congratulate Binh Do for being April’s Cobe Student of the Month.

Binh has also accepted a position in Zion banks training program beginning this May.

Congratulations Binh, we look forward to having you come back as a guest speaker some time.

Everything is set for our team to attend the collegiate games at Fresno State on April 27-28. To see our team in action we had a mock game between Bea, Gundy and James versus Andrea, Binh, and Moonlight. Students won!! Good Luck to Andrea, Binh and Taryn. You will be in our thoughts.

The group had an informal discussion on the cost of turnover. It is often referred to as the “hidden costs”. Current projections have it at $34,000 per person.

 SHRM Business

HRATV Conference is this Wednesday, April 18. Information for this daylong seminar can be found on the HRATV Website.

SHRM has new logo very similar to ours

HRATV meets over the summer. For dates and time please go to the HRATV Website.

Lori Henderson has offered to redesign our HRA Website over the summer. Andrea will contact ASBSU to find out what policies and procedures apply if any. If anyone has any concerns or suggestions you may contact Andrea Buss or Lori Henderson.

Business Cards for the officers are done. The officers decided to wait until fall semester before sending them to print.

Merit Award application has been completed and sent out. We should hear back from them in May.

Shirts are in. If you have ordered one or have taken an order from someone else please see Gundy.

Andrea brought up the idea of having a resume book that includes all members to be distributed at HRATV meetings and Career Fair opportunities. Please start updating your resumes this summer so we can have them ready by the beginning of fall semester.

Last but not least, keep in mind that we will be having elections for Vice President of HRA during the first meeting of the fall semester.

HRA Minutes for 03/19/2007

By: Moonlight Bateman, Chief Operating Officer

This months meeting began with introductions of all present. The meeting was then turned over to Carlene Hansen to give us an update on the Cobe Career Fair and how we as an organization could help.

Lori Henderson, Chief Financial Officer, gave us a budget of $1828.28 as of 02/27/2007. We think this is pre Gundy’s deposit. We also are expecting ASBSU’s match of $600 and a contribution from HRATV of possibly $1000. Funds will be used for the HR collegiate games competition to be held in Fresno California April 27 and 28.

Bae Emilson, Assistant Director of SPHR, informed us of the next HRATV meeting.

Jake Donahue, Director of Activities, is working with Lori Henderson to create a brochure of the Top 10 reasons to join the Human Resource Association. Jake also proposed these ideas:

Lori Henderson passed around templates for possible Officer Business Cards.  She will create and print final three for approval at next meeting.  Andrea Buss, President, will check with ASBSU to see if we need their approval on the Business Cards.

It was brought to our attention that we need to identify a link between HRA and BSU.  It is not clear that we are a student organization.

Hurray!!! The Polo’s will be picked up by Binh Do, Vice President, on Wed to be distributed this week.

Binh is also meeting with the ASBSU Senate to request 1 hr be set aside per week for student organizations.

Congratulations to Gundy Kaupins for receiving the position of Department Chair this summer. Gundy will still be involved with our HRA organization.

Next Meeting will be Monday, April 16, 2007. The location will be announced at a later date.
