SHRM's review of all 2007 - 2008 Student Chapter Merit Award entries has been completed. The Boise State University SHRM Student Chapter has earned the Merit Award.

Scholarships

A great benefit has recently been made available to SHRM studentmembers! The SHRM Foundation has committed $50,000 annually to a new and improved scholarship program for national SHRM student members. We hope you'll encourage your students to apply for one of these valuable scholarships. In fall 2008, 24 scholarships will be awarded:* Ten $2,500 Undergraduate Education Scholarships
* Ten $500 PHR/GPHR Certification Scholarships

Additionally, a $2,500 scholarship, the Dr. Lisa Burke, SPHR Scholarship, is available for undergraduate applicants. Through Dr. Burke's enthusiasm and dedication, she inspires a love of learning in others. This scholarship was created by one of her former students to thank and honor her for her outstanding contributions.This brings the overall total to 25 scholarships available. EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

To be eligible for an education scholarship, applicants must be national SHRM student members with a valid SHRM ID number. Undergraduate student applicants must complete at least two semesters of course work in an HR major or HR emphasis area, including at least one HR management course. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale is required.

Applicants are evaluated according to the following criteria:
* 40% Scholastic average and standing
* 30% SHRM student chapter involvement and/or commitment to the HR profession
* 20% Additional leadership and service activities
* 10% Financial need

CERTIFICATION SCHOLARSHIPS

To be eligible for a certification scholarship, applicants must be national SHRM student members with a valid SHRM ID number. Undergraduate student applicants must complete at least two semesters of course work in an HR major or HR emphasis area, including at least one HR management course. An overall GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale is required. Applicants are evaluated according to the following criteria:

* 50% Commitment to the HR profession and future career plans
* 40% SHRM student chapter involvement and volunteer activity
* 10% Financial need

HR Collegiate Competition

The Human Resource Association took seventh out of thirteen teams in the Pacific West Human Resource Collegiate Competition April 4-5, 2008 at California State Long Beach. It took first place among non-California teams.  The Boise State team beat the eventual champion California State Fresno in dual competitionThis competition features Jeopardy-style games that test knowledge of human resource management.  Decateur Reed, adjunct instructor in the management department, coached the team. Thanks to the Human Resource Association of Treasure Valley (HRATV) for donating $1000 to the club for the HR Collegiate Competition.

This Merit Award winning student chapter from the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University is part of the  Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).  The chapter promotes HR and serves the community.
