The Bronco Venture Championship is a business plan competition conducted annually by the College of Business & Economics.  Initiated in 2002, the Bronco Venture Championship is aimed at encouraging and developing innovative and realistic business ideas.  Conducted in two tracks, graduate and undergraduate, the competition serves as a channel for Boise State University students to gain entry into the Northwest Venture Championship®, an international business plan competition hosted by Boise State University each spring and to other business plan competitions across North America.  Graduate Track teams that win at the Northwest Venture Championship® will be eligible to represent Boise State University at Moot Corp®, the pinnacle of business plan competitions at the University of Texas, Austin.

Types of Ventures

The competition is for new, independent ventures in the seed, start-up, or early growth stages.  Generally excluded are the following: buy-outs, expansions of existing companies, real estate syndications, tax shelters, franchises, licensing agreements for distribution in a different geographical area, and spin-outs from existing corporations.  Licensing technologies from universities or research labs are not excluded and are encouraged, assuming they have not been commercialized previously.  All ventures must be seeking outside equity capital as part of the launch plan for their business.

For 2008, we are also offering a special “green” track for environmentally sustainable business plans.

DAY OF COMPETITION:

Presentations

The presentation is in two parts. Each team will have 20 minutes to present its plan. The presentation will be followed by a 15 minute question-and-answer session with the judges.

Feedback for Improvement

Following the presentation round, teams will return to meet with the judges to receive feedback on their plan, their presentation, and to receive suggestions for improvement.

Awards

Various cash and in-kind awards to help students launch their business ideas will be made.
